Telos celebrates its fifth birthday
January 2012 – Telos celebrates five years of operation and looks forward to a busy year ahead
In January 2007 Telos was set up to meet a growing demand for high quality training based on a whole person approach. Our fifth anniversary has provided an opportunity to look back at some of our most popular programmes and we have revised and improved some of our most popular programmes for 2012. These include:
Person-centered approaches to crisis intervention for people with dementia and their carers
This popular workshop looks at how through a person-centered approach to assessment and care planning we can achieve the least restrictive outcome for a person with dementia in crisis. Over the next twelve months this programme has been commissioned by Kent County Council as well as by the London Borough of Camden and is ideal for Approved Mental Health Professionals as well as a wide range of other staff. Some feedback from a recent programme:
- ‘Very well paced – Ben always so informative and knowledgable – I always enjoy his training courses’.
- ‘Excellent trainer, knowledgeable about dementia and good practice’
Leadership Skills for Approved Mental Health Professionals
A day workshop in which we explore how using leadership and influencing skills we can develop our confidence and improve our leadership skills as Approved Mental Health Professionals.
Action Learning sets for Senior Staff and Managers
Staff in senior roles in Mental Health Services as well in Adult and Childrens Services Trusts require a high level of leadership as well as professional skills. They are faced with a range of management challenges at the same time as needing to understand and develop ownership over a range of values and principles, including recovery and, most topically, the personalisation and self-directed support agenda. The learning set enables staff in a confidential and safe environment to implementing these skills in their daily leadership practice.
Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
Are you responsible for refresher training on the Mental Capacity Act? This popular programme will be offered again in 2012 and provides an opportunity for staff from a wide range of settings to refresh their knowledge and skills on this important legislation.
Working with spiritual issues
Over the last five years Telos has acquired considerable experience in designingand delivering programmes on working with spiritual issues in mental health and dementia services. A focus on spirituality is key to a genuine focus on recovery and person-centered services.
‘Welcome Me as I Am’ - a Mental Health Awareness Programme for Faith Communities
This popular programme is aimed at raising awareness and increasing understanding and skills working with mental distress in Faith Communities. ‘Welcome Me as I Am’ includes:
- A toolkit for facilitators of parish based and other discussions
- A guide for pastoral workers in working with mental distress
- Awareness workshops in working with mental health issues
- Awareness workshops in understanding and working with dementia
- Specialist workshops on key topics of interest
- ‘Mental Health First Aid’ two day workshops.

Ben Bano, Director, said: ‘ I am delighted that over the last five years Telos has been able to provide training to a wide range of people and to satisfy our customer requirements through programmes based on our core values - a whole person approach to training in the context of a person-centered and client-led approach. We are always seeking to learn from feedback and evaluations and this has led us to make severalchanges and improvements to our most popular programmes and we will build on this experience over the next twelve months.’
